The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has cautioned leaders against treating young people as societal burdens.

Speaking on Friday at the 2025 International Youth Day Summit, held at the Blue Roof, LTV 8 Premises, Alausa, Ikeja, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment under the T.H.E.M.E.S+ agenda.

According to the governor, “our youth are not a problem to be fixed; they are valuable assets that need nurturing.

“I am especially thrilled that this year, during our celebration, we will award grants to 10 exceptional participants of the Amplifier Business Clinic to help support their businesses.

“This truly reflects our government’s commitment to investing in the aspirations of our young people.”

The governor listed several initiatives targeted at Lagos youths, including the Ibile Youth Academy, the Lagos State Youth Parliament, the Police Youth Dialogue, and the Lagos Kick Against Drug Abuse (LASKADA) campaign.

He also highlighted the Lagos Youth Study Tour to Queen’s University in Canada, describing it as proof of his government’s drive to prepare young people for global leadership.

Sanwo-Olu praised the Ministry of Youth and Social Development for organising a week of activities to mark the summit.

He urged the youth to see themselves as central partners in building a greater Lagos.

He added: “Your ideas, energy, and resilience are crucial for building a Lagos that works for everyone.

“The dream of a greater Lagos can only come to life with your active participation.”

He pledged to sustain programmes that empower young people while advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
