The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for greater protection for humanitarian workers and enhanced support for local communities to lead sustainable crisis responses across the nation.
In a statement released on Wednesday to commemorate World Humanitarian Day 2026, themed “Strengthening Global Solidarity and Empowering Local Communities,” the First Lady commended the courage and selfless service of relief personnel.
“On this World Humanitarian Day 2026, with the theme ‘Strengthening Global Solidarity and Empowering Local Communities,’ I commend the courage, dedication, and selfless service of humanitarian workers who bring hope and relief to people affected by conflict, disasters, and other emergencies,” she said.
Senator Tinubu emphasized that achieving lasting humanitarian impact requires safeguarding aid personnel while building the capacity of local communities to lead crisis recovery efforts.
“This year’s theme reminds us that lasting humanitarian action depends on protecting aid workers, strengthening global solidarity, and empowering local communities to lead sustainable responses to crises,” she stated.
Reaffirming the need for collective action and empathy, the First Lady urged Nigerians and the global community to prioritize human dignity and support personnel serving vulnerable populations.
“Let us continue to stand together in compassion, uphold the dignity of every human life, and support those who work tirelessly to serve the vulnerable,” she added.
