We saved over N3.7bn after discovering 6,348 ghost workers — Jigawa Govt

The Jigawa State Government has revealed it has saved over N3.7 billion following the identification of 6,348 ghost workers.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports, and Culture, Mr. Sagir Musa, in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Musa explained that the ghost workers were uncovered after the completion of a comprehensive staff verification exercise in the state.

According to the report from the Statewide Staff Audit Biometric Data Capture and Validation Exercise, the detection of the ghost workers has led to a significant monthly savings of over N314 million.

“The exercise resulted in the identification of 6,348 ghost workers, leading to a monthly savings of an average of N314,657,342.06, equating to an annual savings of N3,775,888,809.72,” he said.

He added that the State Executive Council had reviewed the report and approved the establishment of the Continuous Capture Centre (CCC) at the Office of the Head of Civil Service.

In addition to the savings from the ghost workers, Musa revealed that the State Executive Council had approved contracts for the rehabilitation of roads damaged by floods.

These include the Andaza-Gadewa-Aujara road, Unguwar Mani-Korayel-Rorau road, and the Tsamiya-Yalwan Damai-Litinin Tudu road, located in the Roni, Gwiwa, and Birnin Kudu Local Government Areas of the state.

The Council also approved N254.8 million for the completion of the community-based integration into the state’s Social Register Data Management Information System, in line with the Umar Namadi administration’s efforts to expand social security coverage to communities previously left out.

Furthermore, Musa announced that the Council endorsed the implementation of recommendations made by the Committee for the Retrieval of Farmlands Allocation across the state. He stated that these measures were part of efforts to promote peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders throughout Jigawa.

“This is in line with the committee’s roadmap for fostering harmony between the farming and herding communities,” he added.
