Valentine: CLO calls on Nigerians to foster love, peace, and unity

The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has called on Nigerians to use the St. Valentine Day to foster more love, peace and unity.

The Chairman of CLO in Anambra, Mr Vincent Ezekwueme, made the call while speaking with newsmen in Enugu on Friday.

St. Valentine’s Day, which is celebrated Feb. 14 annually, is used to commemorate the historic show of love to prisoners and less privileged by St. Valentine.

According to Ezekwueme, virtues of selflessness, sacrifices and services to humanity are in tandem with sacrificial suffering life of St. Valentine, who sacrificed his life for the good of others.

“Our political leaders, civil and public servants as well as businessmen should emulate sacrificial life of St. Valentine.

“They should live lives above self; while thinking and acting for common good and social wellbeing of the citizenry.

“As St. Valentine died for others to live, we should be able and ready to die for the good of others, which is the lesson and reason for the feast of St. Valentine.

“Let us imbibe, embrace and exhibit the virtues of St. Valentine for the betterment and greater good of humanity.

“This period calls for sober reflection to share and show love, empathy and compassion for all humanity irrespective of the tribe, religion or clan cleavages,’’ he said.
