The British government has announced a series of high-level security measures, including the enforcement of no-fly zones and extensive road closures, in preparation for the upcoming state visit of Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu.

The President, accompanied by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, is scheduled to arrive in the United Kingdom on Wednesday, March 18, to commence a diplomatic itinerary that begins with a formal reception hosted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle.

Thames Valley Police, in coordination with the Royal Household and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, confirmed that airspace restrictions over Windsor will be significantly expanded on the day of the visit.

The no-fly zone will be strictly enforced from 7:00 a.m. until midnight, covering the duration of the state events.

Chief Superintendent Adrian Hall emphasized that these measures are part of a robust security operation unvolving both visible and covert tactics.

He warned that any unauthorized drone activity or aviation breaches would be treated as criminal offenses under the Air Navigation Order, potentially leading to immediate arrests.

On the ground, residents and visitors should expect a heavy police presence. The operation will deploy specialist units including mounted police, armed officers, and search teams, alongside Project Servator officers who are trained to identify suspicious behavior.

To mitigate physical threats, authorities are utilizing the town’s comprehensive CCTV network and installing Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) barriers.

Public cooperation has been identified as a critical component of the safety plan, with officials urging the community to report any anomalies via the 101 non-emergency line or 999 in urgent situations.

Logistical disruptions are expected to begin as early as Tuesday, March 17, with designated parking restrictions and road closures around Windsor Castle.

While the security blanket is extensive, the Police have established a dedicated communication channel for drone operators with legitimate professional requirements to seek temporary clearance.

The visit marks a significant moment in UK-Nigeria relations, and British authorities have expressed confidence that their experience in managing royal events will ensure a secure and seamless proceedings.
