United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc is set to make history at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) by unveiling a landmark whitepaper designed to chart a new course for Africa’s economic transformation.

The high-level event, scheduled between September 15 and September 25, 2025, in New York, will bring together world leaders, policymakers, investors, and private sector players to spotlight Africa’s opportunities and foster strategic partnerships.

UBA’s whitepaper, titled “Banking on Africa’s Future: Unlocking Capital and Partnerships for Sustainable Growth”, is the first of its kind by an African financial institution at UNGA.

The document outlines actionable strategies to unlock Africa’s vast potential in areas such as trade, infrastructure, digital innovation, climate finance, and inclusive growth.

By presenting a roadmap for collaboration between Africa and the global community, UBA seeks to reposition the continent not just as a destination for investment, but as a key driver of future global prosperity.

UBA Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, emphasized the importance of the unveiling, stating: “These conversations are fundamentally different from previous discussions because they will be followed by feasible and actionable decisions.

UBA will actively work to implement these outcomes for the benefit of the continent.”

Other activities lined up by the bank at UNGA include the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) Roundtable hosted by UBA America, and the annual UBA Reception, which will convene world leaders and business executives for critical dialogues on investment and development across Africa.

UBA Group Managing Director/CEO, Oliver Alawuba, underscored the significance of the whitepaper, stressing that private sector actors must play a more active role in demonstrating commitment to Africa’s development through “concrete action and proven capabilities.”

With operations across 20 African countries as well as the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and the UAE, UBA serves more than 45 million customers globally.

The bank remains one of Africa’s largest employers in the financial sector, with over 25,000 employees.
