Two men imprisoned for stealing 180 litres of diesel, N250,000 in Jos
Two men, Ibrahim Aliyu and Ibrahim Umar, have been sentenced to six months imprisonment by an Area Court in Jos. They were found guilty of stealing 180 litres of diesel and a cash sum of N250,000.
The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, handed down the sentence after the defendants pleaded guilty and requested leniency from the court. In addition to the prison term, Judge Bokkos also provided an alternative for the convicts.
They have the option to pay a fine of N30,000 each. The court’s decision serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in criminal activities and sends a message that theft will not be tolerated in the community.
Bokkos also gave the convicts an option of N30,000 fine each.
The convicts were equally ordered to pay a compensation of N50,000 each or serve six months in default.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Labaran Ahmed, had informed the court that the case was reported at the Laranto Police Station, Jos, on Jan. 10, by Mr Aminu Mohammed.
Ahmed said the truck drivers conspired and stole 180 litres of diesel from Mohammed, the complainant’s trucks, worth N190,800 and the cash sum of N250,000.
The prosecutor further told the court that during a police investigation, the accused persons confessed to committing the offence.
The offence, he said, contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
