...Recover cache of ammunition in Kaduna, Plateau raids
Troops of 3 Division Nigerian Army and Operation Safe Haven have arrested a suspected bandit posing as a soldier and uncovered a substantial cache of arms during two separate military operations in Kaduna and Plateau States.
The first arrest took place on 15 June in Katsit community, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where the suspect, dressed in full military camouflage, was reportedly using the uniform to intimidate and rob local residents.
Military sources confirmed that a subsequent raid led to the recovery of a loaded AK-47 rifle, a magazine, three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, seven spent shells, a counterfeit vigilante ID card, a mobile phone, and two ATM cards from the suspect.
“He is currently in military custody and undergoing interrogation as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle wider networks of banditry and impersonation,” a security official revealed.
In a separate operation on 16 June, troops conducted a coordinated raid on a known arms dealer’s hideout at Kwanar Lauje in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. Though the suspects had vacated the premises before the troops arrived, the search uncovered a significant stockpile of weapons and related materials.
Recovered items included another AK-47 rifle, a magazine, an AK-47 buttstock, 300 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a 9mm round, two 12.7mm rounds, and an abandoned motorcycle.
Military authorities confirmed that all confiscated items are now secured in military custody, and follow-up operations are actively ongoing to trace and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
