Troops foil kidnap attempt, neutralise terrorist, recover AK-47 in KogiBy Imisioluwa Afunmiso

Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under the 2 Division, have foiled a planned kidnapping operation and neutralised a suspected terrorist during a successful ambush in the Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The operation, conducted by the Nigerian Army, followed credible intelligence indicating that armed criminals were planning to carry out kidnapping activities in the Jakura II community.




According to a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, troops swiftly deployed to a suspected crossing point along the Old Obajana–Tajimi Road, where they laid an ambush to intercept the terrorists.
The statement noted that the troops made contact with the criminal elements during the operation and engaged them in a firefight, resulting in the death of one suspected terrorist, while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.
”Further exploitation of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, five magazines, 70 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one bandolier, and mobile phones,” the Army spokesman stated.
The military noted that the recovered items further confirmed the involvement of the criminal group in kidnapping and other criminal activities within the area.
Lieutenant Abdullahi said the operation underscores the determination of the 12 Brigade troops to sustain offensive operations against terrorists, kidnappers, and other criminal elements threatening the safety of residents.
He added that troops have continued exploitation efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Commending the troops for their vigilance and professionalism, the Commander of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, praised their combat efficiency and commitment to duty.
The Brigade Commander reassured residents of the military’s resolve to maintain pressure on criminal elements and safeguard lives and property across the state.
He also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and actionable intelligence to enhance ongoing efforts to combat insecurity.
