Train 7: NLNG expands youth skills programme to boost Nigerian Content development

Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) has announced plans to increase youth participation in its recently expanded specialised skills-based programme under the Train 7 Project.
Mr Dagogo Buowari, Manager of Nigerian Content Development at NLNG, made the statement during the launch of the Train 7 Project Human Capital Development (HCD) Basic Training Supplementary Programme in Port Harcourt over the weekend.
The announcement was issued by Mrs Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, NLNG’s Manager of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs.
Addressing the new beneficiaries, Buowari described the initiative as a crucial part of the company’s wider efforts to meet Nigerian Content targets and to equip young Nigerians with practical, industry-relevant skills.
“This programme further reinforces NLNG’s commitment to Nigerian Content development, especially within the ongoing Train 7 Project,” he said.
“We are proud to maintain this momentum in partnership with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), which plays a vital role in advancing human capital development across Nigeria.”
He explained that the supplementary training expands the Train 7 HCD Basic Training Programme by offering two distinct learning pathways designed to meet the diverse needs of participants.
The training comprises structured theoretical modules delivered in classroom settings alongside practical, field-based hands-on experience. Both elements follow a carefully crafted curriculum with clear milestones to ensure trainees acquire both technical knowledge and applied expertise relevant to the industry.
Beyond technical skills, Buowari said the programme is designed to foster the personal and professional growth of participants. Trainees will have access to healthcare services through Reliance Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO) to support their wellbeing throughout the course.
In addition, the programme includes mentorship schemes that connect trainees with experienced professionals from the oil and gas sector, providing guidance and career development support.
Buowari also highlighted that NLNG offers further support such as counselling, emotional wellness resources, performance evaluations, and career coaching to ensure trainees develop into well-rounded professionals capable of thriving in demanding work environments.
He encouraged beneficiaries to fully utilise the opportunities provided to enhance their skills for their own benefit and that of their families.
The Train 7 Project forms part of Nigeria’s broader ambition to increase gas production capacity to 30 million tonnes per annum, reinforcing the country’s position in the global energy market.
