Tinubu's actions makes ADC more popular, says Momodu

Veteran journalist and publisher Dele Momodu says recent political maneuvers by President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are inadvertently boosting the popularity of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) among Nigerians.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Momodu accused the APC of undermining opposition parties, adding that such tactics were backfiring.

His remarks followed the ADC’s recent national convention in Abuja, reportedly relocated to the Rainbow Event Centre after issues surrounding the use of Eagle Square, allegedly requested but not approved by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

“We gathered in one small venue, but despite that they are making ADC more popular,” Momodu said.

“That one I am so excited about it that our guys couldn't be bothered that the place was too hot and everything. Look, Asiwaju, we leave power one day. But the history is that right now he has disorganized all opposition parties in Nigeria.”

Momodu further disclosed that internal crises in various political parties have pushed opposition leaders to unite and provide an alternative platform for citizens.According to him, prominent political heavyweights including Peter Obi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Atiku Abubakar, Aminu Tambuwal, and Rotimi Amaechi are now part of a broader opposition realignment.

“That is why unknown to them inadvertently, they forced Peter Obi, they forced Kwankwanso, they forced Atiku, they forced you know Tambuwal, they forced Amaechi they forced all the juggernauts into one party. So whether they like it or not, now Nigerians have an alternative to APC. And I'm very excited about that.”

Momodu defended the ADC’s leadership structure under David Mark, insisting due process was followed in forming the coalition.

Now, If you ask me, if ADC made a mistake, ADC did 99.9% of what any right-thinking person would have done. ADC did not just come into a coalition overnight. They had meetings upon meetings, sleepless nights, globally, not just in Nigeria.

And they were planning because they knew the people they were dealing with. And it actually caught the ruling party by surprise. That's why they are now running helter skelter and trying to see how they can frustrate us like they are frustrated all the other parties.

The media mogul called on Nigerians to safeguard democratic principles, warning that the country’s political trajectory under the current administration raises concerns.

“We need to all stand up for democracy where whether you like Tinubu or you don't like Tinubu, the grouse we have against him is that he's leading Nigeria in the wrong direction. And we cannot keep quiet.”
