Tinubu urges FCT residents to pay taxes, says revenue needed for more Infrastructure

President Bola Tinubu has urged residents and businesses in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to fulfil their tax obligations, pay ground rents, and settle other statutory charges, saying government revenue is essential for sustaining infrastructure development in Abuja.

Tinubu made the call on Wednesday during the inauguration of the completed Arterial Road N5 linking Life Camp Junction and Ring Road III in the Dape District of Abuja.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the President said compliance with tax and land payment obligations would enable the FCT Administration to provide more projects that would improve the lives of residents.

He urged residents and business owners benefiting from government projects to support development efforts by meeting their responsibilities.

“Pay your taxes. Clear your land fees and ground rents. Your compliance gives the FCT Administration the strength to build more roads like this one,” Tinubu said.

The President said the completion of the road project showed his administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure projects from start to finish rather than abandoning them.

He recalled that during the inauguration of an earlier section of the road in 2025, he promised that the project would not be left incomplete.

According to him, the completion of the Dape District section of Arterial Road N5 marks the fulfilment of that commitment under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Tinubu said the project, which was awarded in October 2024 and completed within the expected timeframe, represents a new approach to public infrastructure delivery.

He added that the road would improve connectivity between communities such as Dape, Karmo, Gwarinpa, Kado, Mbora, and the Idu Industrial District.

The President noted that the improved access would reduce transportation challenges, lower logistics costs for businesses, attract investment, and create more employment opportunities.

He also commended the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his efforts in driving infrastructure development across the territory.

“Minister Wike, you and your team have shown what happens when political will meets accountability. We fund projects to see results, not to listen to grammar,” Tinubu said.

Earlier, Wike said infrastructure development in the FCT had increased significantly under the Tinubu administration, adding that the number of completed projects had grown compared to previous years.

He stated that while the first anniversary of the administration featured nine days of project commissioning, the second anniversary recorded 19 days, while the third anniversary would feature 31 days of commissioning.

The minister added that infrastructure projects were now extending beyond the city centre to satellite communities, bringing more government presence closer to residents.

Wike also addressed concerns over compensation for properties affected by the road project, stating that all eligible property owners had been paid.
