President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar, who was killed while in the custody of terrorists in Katsina State.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the State House, the President described the incident as shocking and extended condolences to the family of the deceased, the Katsina State Government, and the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The president said the late officer, Rabe Abubakar, had a distinguished military career before retiring a few years ago.
He noted that the retired General was abducted while travelling to his hometown.
The statement read that “he was on his way to his hometown when the hoodlums captured him,” while also confirming that his wife is still being held by the kidnappers.
Tinubu commiserated with the family, especially the wife of the deceased who remains in captivity.
The President, reacting strongly to the killing, warned that the Federal Government would not yield to the demands of terrorists, insisting that criminals behind such attacks would face the full weight of the law.
He said, “bandits, kidnappers, and sponsors of terror should now surrender or face the full force of the Nigerian State,” adding that “these windows of surrender will not remain open forever.”
Tinubu also stated that “no mercy will be shown to those who trade in the blood of Nigerians,” and assured Nigerians that the country would overcome terrorism and insecurity.
He further stressed that the government would not negotiate with terrorists, describing them as enemies of the nation who must be dealt with decisively.
