Tinubu commissions Afreximbank African Trade Centre in Abuja
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday commissioned the Afreximbank African Trade Centre (AATC) in Abuja, marking a major milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to position itself as a continental hub for trade and investment.
The president was represented at the event by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
The Centre, an initiative of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), is designed as a multifunctional business complex to support intra-African trade and economic integration. Located in the Nigerian capital, the AATC will serve as Afreximbank’s regional office and offer a blend of services to support businesses across Africa.
The facility features a modern conference centre, a trade and exhibition hub, a Digital Trade Gateway, a 148-room ONOMO Hotel, and office spaces tailored for Nigerian, African, and international financial and policy organisations. The Centre also includes a gym, wellness centre, and a technology and SME incubation hub.
Afreximbank launched the AATC to address the continent’s trade-related challenges, including limited access to market intelligence and inadequate trade facilitation infrastructure.
The Abuja Centre is part of a broader strategy to create trade facilitation hubs across Africa and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) region.
The AATC will serve as a one-stop destination for business networking, trade promotion, and market access. A major component of the facility is the integration of Afreximbank’s Trade Intelligence Solutions (TRIN), a data-driven platform that provides businesses with detailed trade and investment insights.
TRIN offers support to companies seeking to penetrate or expand within African markets by providing real-time intelligence and expert advisory services.
The platform is expected to enhance the capacity of entrepreneurs and investors to make informed decisions in an increasingly dynamic continental market.
