President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for unity, discipline and collective commitment among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging the party to remain focused on its founding ideals and national development goals.

Speaking at the 4th Elective National Convention of the APC held at Eagle Square, Abuja, on March 27, 2026, the President described the gathering as a defining moment for both the party and Nigeria’s democracy.

He said the convention provides an opportunity to renew the party’s vision, strengthen internal cohesion and recommit to the “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
“Our greatest strength has never been in our size or numbers, but in our unity. We must guard against division and ensure that personal ambition does not override collective interest,” he said.

The President stressed that the APC was founded as a platform for national transformation, not merely a vehicle for electoral victories, adding that governance must continue to be driven by vision, discipline and inclusiveness.
He also clarified that the ruling party does not seek to establish a one-party system, noting that a credible opposition is essential for strengthening democracy and improving governance.
On electoral reforms, Tinubu defended the Electoral Act 2026, stating that it followed due legislative processes and reflects the country’s commitment to credible elections and democratic consolidation.
The President highlighted key achievements of his administration, including progress in infrastructure development, ongoing tax and fiscal reforms, and improvements in economic indicators.
According to him, Nigeria has recorded trade surpluses, declining inflation rates and increased investor confidence, while the stock market has shown strong performance.
He added that reforms in the oil and gas sector have enhanced foreign investment, while Nigeria’s exit from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list signals renewed global financial credibility.
Despite these gains, Tinubu acknowledged ongoing challenges in the power sector, including debts to generation companies and outdated transmission infrastructure.

He disclosed plans to address these issues through the establishment of a Grid Asset Management Company (GAMCO) to boost electricity supply.
The President also appealed to youths and women to play active roles in nation-building, describing them as critical to Nigeria’s future.
“You are not only the future of Nigeria, you are the hope for a more assured and prosperous nation,” he said, urging increased youth participation in leadership and decision-making.
He further called for greater inclusion of women in governance, noting that empowering women strengthens both the party and the country.
Tinubu urged delegates, aspirants and stakeholders at the convention to conduct themselves with integrity and respect for due process, stressing that internal contests should not create divisions within the party.
“At the end of this convention, our party must emerge stronger and united. We are one family,” he said.
He also commended members of the convention planning committee and party leaders for their roles in organising the event, while charging newly elected officials to lead with integrity, fairness and commitment to the party’s ideals.
The President concluded by expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future, stating that ongoing reforms, though challenging, are laying the foundation for long-term prosperity.
