President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstruction of the Ado-Ijan-Ilumoba-Ikole Road in Ekiti State, with funding to be provided through the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Infrastructure Project Fund.
The approval was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti by the Special Adviser on Media to the Ekiti State Governor, Yinka Oyebode.
According to the statement, the letter conveying the President’s approval was dated July 1, 2026, and addressed to the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, and the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mr. Zacch Adedeji, with a copy forwarded to Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
Oyebode stated that “the new development is coming barely seven months after construction work commenced on the Itawure-Aramoko-Ado Ekiti Road, also in the state, following the President’s approval.”
The Ado-Ijan-Ilumoba-Ikole Road serves as a major transport corridor linking the South-West to the Federal Capital Territory. It also provides access to key institutions and facilities, including the Federal Polytechnic, Afe Babalola University, the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, the Ekiti Knowledge Zone, and the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology.
The road has remained in poor condition for several years due to inadequate maintenance and prolonged neglect, making rehabilitation a priority for residents and road users.
The approval follows a recent meeting between President Tinubu, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, and the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, during which the President assured the state government that the project would be included under the Renewed Hope Infrastructure programme.
The governor’s aide stated, “Governor Oyebanji thanked President Tinubu for fulfilling his promise to intervene on the road.”
He described the development as further evidence of the President’s love and support for Ekiti State, as well as his commitment to infrastructural upgrades across the country in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Road infrastructure is a critical aspect of the development agenda of the Oyebanji administration. The administration has, over the last three and a half years, constructed over 285 kilometers of inter-city and intra-city roads, including a 1.2-kilometer flyover.”
“It has also constructed 135 km of rural roads through the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project. This is in addition to recently awarded road contracts at different stages of completion.”
“The state is also collaborating with the Federal Government and international development partners on road infrastructure upgrades in line with the administration’s Shared Prosperity Agenda,” he said.
The reconstruction of the Ado-Ijan-Ilumoba-Ikole Road is expected to improve transportation, ease the movement of people and goods, boost economic activities, and enhance access to major educational and commercial centers within Ekiti State and beyond.
