President Bola Tinubu has appointed Shamseldeen Ogunjimi as the acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF).
In a statement released on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, the appointment takes immediate effect as Oluwatoyin Madein, the outgoing AGF, proceeds on pre-retirement leave.
“With this appointment, President Tinubu ensures a smooth transition in the management of Nigeria’s treasury while advancing the administration’s ongoing treasury policy reforms,” Onanuga stated.
Ogunjimi, a seasoned civil servant with over 30 years of experience in financial management, currently serves as the most senior director in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF). He has held key positions, including Director of Funds at the OAGF and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A chartered accountant, Ogunjimi also holds certifications as a fraud examiner, stockbroker, and security and investment specialist. His academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree in accountancy and a master’s degree in finance and accounting.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in Ogunjimi’s capabilities, emphasizing the crucial role of the AGF in managing Nigeria’s treasury operations. “Mr. Ogunjimi’s extensive experience and expertise will strengthen this vital institution as we drive forward our economic reform agenda,” Tinubu said.
The president also commended Madein for her dedication and contributions to the nation’s financial management.
Madein, who will officially retire on March 7, 2025, upon reaching the statutory retirement age, was lauded for her selfless service to the country.
