Tinubu appoints Bianca as Foreign Affairs Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, marking a key transition in the country’s diplomatic leadership.

Her appointment follows the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar, who is reported to have stepped down to focus on political engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The move is being viewed as part of a broader effort by the Presidency to sustain Nigeria’s foreign policy momentum while strengthening its global positioning amid shifting geopolitical and economic realities.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu, a former ambassador with extensive diplomatic experience, is expected to steer Nigeria’s international engagements, with a focus on deepening bilateral ties, enhancing multilateral cooperation, and advancing economic diplomacy.

Sources within government circles indicate that her mandate will include strengthening trade partnerships, promoting investment inflows, and reinforcing Nigeria’s role in regional and global affairs.

The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs plays a central role in coordinating Nigeria’s diplomatic missions and managing its international relations, making the leadership transition significant for policy continuity.

Analysts say her appointment comes at a politically sensitive period, where governance decisions increasingly intersect with early alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

They add that her performance will likely be measured by Nigeria’s ability to maintain strong diplomatic influence, attract strategic partnerships, and effectively engage its diaspora community in the coming months.
