The Govs who couldn’t hold on: North-Central, North-East & North-West edition

Several governors in Nigeria's North-Central and North-East regions have had their tenures cut short or lost re-election bids since the return to democracy in 1999.
North-Central Region
Governors in the North-Central who did not complete their full terms or lost re-election include:
Plateau State: Joshua Dariye He was impeached in November 2006 on allegations of siphoning public funds, though he was later reinstated by the Supreme Court before the end of his term in May 2007.
He had also faced a six-month suspension and a state of emergency was declared in 2004 by then-President Obasanjo due to communal clashes.
Nasarawa State: Aliyu Akwe Doma He sought a second term in the 2011 elections but lost to Umaru Al-Makura of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
Kogi State: Idris Wada He lost his re-election bid in 2015 to Abubakar Audu, who died before the results were fully declared, eventually leading to Yahaya Bello becoming governor.
Kwara State: Mohammed Lawal
He was a one-term governor who lost his re-election bid. The state later saw another change in 2019 when the incumbent governor Abdulfatah Ahmed's party (PDP) lost the state to the opposition APC.
North-East Region
Governors in the North-East who did not complete their full terms or lost re-election include:
Adamawa State: Murtala Nyako He was impeached in July 2014 on allegations of corruption and abuse of office. His deputy, Bala Ngilari, eventually became governor after a court ruling.
Adamawa State: Jibrilla Bindow He was the incumbent governor who lost his re-election in 2019 to the current governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
Bauchi State: Mohammed Abubakar He lost his re-election bid in 2019 to Bala Mohammed.
Borno State: Mala Kachalla He was a one-term governor who was unsuccessful in his re-election campaign.
Taraba State: Jolly Nyame While he served two full terms (1999-2007), his tenure was marked by some political turbulence, and he was later convicted on corruption charges after leaving office.
The state also experienced a turbulent period when the then-acting governor, Sani Abubakar Danladi, was impeached, though he was later reinstated by a court order.
