TCN reports steady progress on key transmission projects to boost power supply in Kaduna

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced notable advancements on vital electricity transmission projects intended to improve power supply, reliability, and capacity in Kaduna and surrounding areas.
At a press briefing held at the TCN regional office in Kaduna, Engr Nasir Mansur S. Fada, General Manager Transmission for the Kaduna Region, reaffirmed TCN’s dedication to providing stable and efficient electricity services.
Among the major projects he detailed was the 330kV Double Circuit Kudenda-Mando line. Once completed, this line will evacuate 215 megawatts of power from the Kudenda Power Station to the 330/132/33kV substation in Mando.
Fada explained that progress on the project has been slowed by challenges related to compensating Project Affected Persons (PAPs). He said there have been extensive discussions between TCN and communities in both Mando and Kudenda over compensation concerns. He described these communities as essential partners in the success of the projects.
“In Kudenda, TCN has compensated the majority of PAPs, although some have rejected the offers, arguing their land was undervalued or that they were omitted during the enumeration process,” Fada said.
He added that TCN is working closely with all relevant parties to resolve these issues amicably to accelerate the project’s completion.
Regarding the Mando community, Fada said the next phase involves compensating PAPs there. “A committee established by our Corporate Headquarters has already met with the PAPs, conducted site inspections, and gathered the necessary documentation,” he stated.
Other ongoing projects include the 2X150MVA 330/132/33kV substation in Jaja, which will connect to the 330kV Kano transmission line upon completion, and the 2X60MVA 132/33kV substation in Jaji, which will link to the 132kV Zaria transmission line.
Fada noted that TCN has held several meetings with community leaders and stakeholders, who have shown strong cooperation and pledged full support for the successful delivery of these projects.
“These initiatives are designed to reinforce transmission capacity, reduce power interruptions, and deliver a more stable and reliable electricity grid. When finished, these facilities will significantly improve power supply efficiency across Kaduna and its environs,” he said.
In addition to updating the media on project developments, the General Manager urged the public to help protect critical power infrastructure. He encouraged residents to report suspicious activities near high-tension installations and warned against encroaching on transmission rights of way.
“Safeguarding power infrastructure is a shared responsibility. We ask the public to report any acts of vandalism or suspicious behaviour. Furthermore, building under transmission lines is illegal and poses serious safety risks,” Fada concluded.
