TCN launches sensitisation exercise for communities
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Federal Ministry of Finance, has conducted a sensitisation exercise for Project Affected Persons (PAPs) along the Alaoji–Onitsha 330kV transmission line corridor.
The exercise, which ran from January 6 to January 8, covered 12 Local Government Areas (LGAs) across Abia, Imo, and Anambra states.
According to TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, the programme was designed to educate communities on the proposed reconstruction and upgrade of the transmission line.
TCN Project Manager, Mrs. Omobola Sobo, explained that the AfDB-funded project entails upgrading the existing line to a quad-circuit configuration using advanced conductors, which is expected to double its capacity.
“The upgrade will improve electricity supply reliability and help meet the growing demand from consumers,” she said.
Speaking on the exercise, TCN’s Assistant General Manager, Health, Safety and Environment, Mr. Aromeh Adole, described the sensitisation as a critical step ahead of the planned compensation for affected property owners.
He assured that all PAPs would receive appropriate compensation in line with approved guidelines, following completion of the final verification process.
Adole also noted that the programme would ensure public safety within the transmission line corridor during the construction phase.
He added that TCN would work with environmental management and consultancy firm PGM to facilitate clearing of the transmission line ahead of the upgrade.
The exercise marks a key phase in TCN’s efforts to modernise the country’s electricity transmission infrastructure, enhance power supply reliability, and ensure community engagement in major infrastructure projects.
