Students, Staff call for suspension of FUOYE VC, allege corruption

Youth leaders, Students, and staff members have called for the immediate suspension of the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina.

The call for the suspension of the VC was made on Monday during a protest spearheaded by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ekiti State Chapter, and backed by the Association of Southern Nigeria Youth Congress (ASNYC).

The protesters accused the institution’s leadership of corruption, abuse of office, and moral decay.

They also called for the removal of the Governing Council Chairman, Senator Victor Ndoma Egba (SAN).

Chanting solidarity songs and displaying placards with inscriptions such as “Enough of corruption in FUOYE” and “Tinubu, suspend FUOYE VC now,” the protesters vowed not to leave the campus until their demands were met.

NYCN Chairman, James Bankole, described the situation as “a monumental crisis threatening to destroy FUOYE,” alleging that the university leadership had institutionalised “corruption, financial recklessness, and moral collapse.”

He further accused the Council Chairman of relocating Council meetings and the ongoing Vice Chancellorship selection process to Abuja in defiance of ministerial directives describing the act as “financial sabotage against the Nigerian state.”

The youth groups also cited alleged cases of sexual harassment and cover ups, demanding a forensic audit of FUOYE’s finances and an independent probe into the sexual misconduct allegations.

Meanwhile, the University’s Students’ Union Government (SUG) had earlier warned against the protest, describing it as an unauthorised gathering that could disrupt peace on campus.

The protest follows a series of petitions sent to President Bola Tinubu, the Minister of Education, and anti-graft agencies, urging a probe into alleged mismanagement and manipulation within the institution’s leadership.
