Speaker condemns Maiduguri blast, calls for collective efforts in combating terrorism

By Paul James, Abuja

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has condemned the recent bomb blasts in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing the coordinated attacks as heinous, unfortunate, and an affront to humanity.

In a statement released through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker expressed his deepest sympathies to the victims of the explosions that rocked the Monday Market area and a security post at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital on Monday night.

The detonations, which occurred simultaneously around 7:02 PM, resulted in an unspecified number of casualties and significant injuries to civilians.

Abbas in a statement expressed outrage that the suspected terrorists chose to carry out these destructive acts during the Holy Month of Ramadan, a period dedicated to peace and spiritual reflection.

He argued that these illegalities further confirm that the perpetrators are not only operating against Islamic tenets but are fundamentally opposed to the sanctity of human life.

The Speaker further called for a renewed sense of collective national effort to combat terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes, urging the nation's security agencies to immediately step up their strategies and intensify actions to prevent further criminal incursions.

The Speaker also offered heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to those currently receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the blasts.
