Skitmakers, Media producers must obtain approval before shoot on campus

The University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has officially prohibited skit making, content creation, and video recording within its campus and hostels without prior authorization from management.
The directive, contained in a statement signed by the institution’s Head of Communication, Mrs Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, followed growing concerns over the rising use of university facilities for unapproved media productions, including comedy skits, vox pops, and short films.
“The attention of the University Management has been drawn to the rising use of the University premises, including hostels and other facilities, for shooting of films, videos, skits, and similar cinematographic activities without proper authorisation,” the statement read in part.
According to UNILAG, the decision was taken to safeguard the institution’s public image, maintain decorum within its academic environment, and prevent misrepresentation of its premises in online or public content.
The university emphasised that no student, staff member, or external individual is permitted to record or produce content on campus without first obtaining formal clearance from the Communication Unit.
“All cinematographic activities within the university environment must comply with laid-down procedures and receive official approval to ensure safety, discipline, and respect for institutional values,” the statement added.
While acknowledging the importance of digital creativity and expression, the management said such activities must align with the university’s operational ethics and security protocols.
It further urged members of the academic community and the public to strictly comply with the directive “in the interest of order, safety, and collective responsibility.”
