Scrap dealer docked for alleged N310,000 fraud

A 28-year-old scrap dealer, Rabiu Muhammad, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, for alleged N310,000 fraud.

The police charged Muhammad, whose address was not provided, with fraud and theft.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Victor Eruada, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 26 at 9.30 a.m. at Agege area of Lagos.

Eruada said the defendant fraudulently collected the money from the complainant, Mr Ibrahim Hassan with a promise to supply him a sachet water processing machine and he failed to do.

He said all efforts made by the complainant to get get back his money, he said, failed.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Reports state that obtaining money Section 314 stipulates 15 years jail term for collecting money  under false pretenses , while Section 287 stipulates three years for stealing.

Magistrate Folashade Oshikoya admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Oshikoya adjourned the case until Sept. 23 for mention.
