Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is set to commission four key road projects in the Ojo axis of Lagos, including the much-anticipated Old Ojo (Phase 1) Road in Oriade LCDA, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area. The formal handover will take place today.

Alongside the Old Ojo Road, the newly reconstructed Irede, Navy Town, and Mumuni Adio (Buba Marwa) Roads will also be officially opened

According to a statement on Monday by Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, the formal handover of these roads shows Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to the Transportation Pillar of the THEMES+ Agenda.

The 10.1-kilometer roads connect key areas, providing smoother access for both residential and commercial zones. Among them, Irede Road is a 2.2-kilometer stretch off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, terminating at the Irede Jetty, which offers water transport services to riverine communities such as Ibasa, Ibeshe, Ilashe, and Imoore in Amuwo-Odofin.

Mumuni Adio Road, which leads to major petroleum depots in Ijegun Egba, has been upgraded from its previous semi-urban state, while Navy Town Road connects to the Ijegun Imoren Jetty and links Old Ojo Road to Central Bank Estate and Navy Town.

The Old Ojo Road, first constructed in the 1960s, has undergone a comprehensive rehabilitation, replacing its dilapidated single-carriageway with a modernised, expanded route designed to improve traffic flow and support economic development in the area.

In the statement, Omotoso reaffirmed the importance of these infrastructure upgrades in contributing to the state’s development.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration will continue to upgrade old roads and build new ones for the benefit of residents, fulfilling his promise to improve Lagos’ transportation landscape,” he said.
