Sanwo-Olu reinforces commitment to creative industry

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to enhancing the arts and creative sector, emphasising ongoing investments in training and development.

This commitment was articulated after attending a performance of the stage play “Kurunmi,” written by renowned playwright Prof. Ola Rotimi, at Terra Kulture in Victoria Island.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu noted, “Our commitment is reflected in our investments in various initiatives, including training, manpower development, and arts promotion, among others. I firmly believe that our support for the arts and creative sector is crucial for fostering an environment where this industry can thrive.”

Set against the backdrop of the Yoruba kingdoms, the play explores themes of “supremacy of tradition, social change, responsible leadership, control, and accountability.”

Directed by Oladapo Muyideen and produced by Akosile, “Kurunmi” featured a cast of 75, including both emerging and established talents, and ran from September 28 to 29.

The event was attended by notable figures, including executives from First Bank, a key sponsor, as well as various Nollywood personalities.

Sanwo-Olu was accompanied by his Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Idris Aregbe, among other aides.
