The Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has achieved a monumental milestone in the education sector, delivering a staggering 4,000 classrooms across the state in just six years.

This accomplishment was revealed by the Chairman of the Special Committee on Renovation of Public Schools (SCRPS) in Lagos State, Hakeem Smith, at a news briefing in Lagos on Tuesday.

According to Smith, the governor’s administration has not only constructed new classrooms but has also rehabilitated existing ones, thereby providing a conducive learning environment for students.

“As a result of the governor’s commitment to education, we have rehabilitated 386 blocks of classrooms in primary and secondary schools across Lagos’ six education districts. Additionally, 1,290 new classroom blocks have been constructed, with several other projects ongoing,” Smith disclosed.

The SCRPS chairman listed some of the schools that have benefited from these interventions, including King Ado Junior and Senior High School, Isale Eko Junior and Senior Grammar School, and Cherubim and Seraphim Nursery and Primary School 1, Owutu, Ikorodu.

Smith also revealed the introduction of modular and digitally equipped classrooms, such as the one at Vetland Junior Grammar School, Agege, commissioned three years ago.

Similar projects are currently underway at Girls Junior Secondary School, Lalupon, Ikoyi; Lagos Baptist Secondary School, Obanikoro; and Ogba Junior Secondary School.

“These modern classrooms are equipped with digital teaching tools, allowing teachers to conduct lessons using digital screens while students follow along with iPads or smartphones,” Smith explained.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Basic Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun, reaffirmed Governor Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to education, describing the upcoming inauguration of new classrooms as “another milestone” in the state’s T.H.E.M.E.S agenda.

“Education is dear to the governor’s heart. TESCOM has recruited 500 teachers, and the governor has approved a ₦2 billion allocation for WAEC examination fees for SS3 students,” Alli-Balogun added.

The inauguration of 16 new classroom blocks is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, March 19, with the governor inaugurating new structures at Keme Balogun School in Ibeshe, Ikorodu, and Ajegunle Junior Secondary School in Kosofe.
