Rosiji empowers 1,000 youths with ₦100m, commissions six roads in Ojokoro

The Executive Chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area, Hon. (Barr.) Oluyemisi Adenike Rosiji, has marked her first year in office with the commissioning of six roads and the empowerment of about 1,000 youths and women with start-up support valued at ₦100 million.

The anniversary activities, held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, brought together political and traditional leaders, security agencies, community stakeholders and residents from across the LCDA.

The six commissioned roads are Olusegun Oladapo Street, Oniyaomebi Street in Orile-Alagbado, Yusuf Street, Ibrahim Afuwape Street, Ipetu-Ijesha Street and Onipinla Street.

Rosiji said the projects were designed to improve connectivity, ease movement, stimulate local commerce and improve residents’ quality of life.

She also urged residents to protect the infrastructure by keeping drainage channels free of refuse and avoiding activities such as mechanic workshops and permanent parking on the newly constructed roads.

The projects complement other drainage and flood-control interventions across the LCDA, including works at Oniyaomebi, Onipinla, Ipetu-Ijesha and Abiok Street.

₦100m empowerment for 1,000 beneficiaries

At the council secretariat, the administration graduated and empowered about 1,000 beneficiaries drawn from its vocational, ICT and women-focused training programmes.

The beneficiaries received training in cake and pastries making, fashion designing, hat and bag making, cosmetology, tie and dye, computer applications, desktop publishing and front-end web development, among other skills.

Unlike programmes that end with certificates, Rosiji said her administration backed the training with ₦100 million in start-up support to enable beneficiaries to establish businesses and become economically independent.

She said the objective was to transform training into sustainable livelihoods and local economic growth.

The beneficiaries also displayed products and crafts produced from skills acquired during the programmes.

Women empowerment remained a key component of the administration’s development agenda, with beneficiaries trained through the Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation programme at the Women Development Centre, Agege.

Rosiji also established a Women in Politics initiative aimed at increasing women’s participation in decision-making, strengthening their voice in governance and promoting advocacy against sexual and gender-based violence.

“A prosperous Ojokoro must be an inclusive Ojokoro,” she said.

Security gets new vehicles

The administration also strengthened security and enforcement operations with the provision of operational vehicles.

A vehicle was presented to the APC Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Hon. (Alhaji) Jelili Oseni, while an operational vehicle was donated to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Three mini-buses were also provided for task-force operations to improve field monitoring, enforcement and rapid response across the council area.

APC leaders commend performance

The Lagos State APC leadership commended Rosiji’s first-year performance.

Speaking on behalf of the state APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the state Secretary, Hon. Dr. Adeola Jokomba, said the commissioned roads, empowerment programme and other interventions provided visible evidence of the administration’s performance.

He urged residents to continue supporting the APC and its programmes, particularly as the 2027 general elections approach.

Rosiji, who said her administration had recorded 26 major projects and interventions in its first year, also highlighted achievements in healthcare, education, environmental management and social support.

She said 1,000 families had been enrolled in the ILERA EKO health insurance scheme, while indigent students had received educational support, including free GCE and UTME forms.

The chairman thanked Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, traditional rulers, political leaders, community organisations, security agencies, council officials and residents for their support.

She pledged that the administration would build on its first-year achievements by pursuing more infrastructure, empowerment, healthcare, education, security and other programmes aimed at improving the lives of residents.
