Recurring security threats evidence of failed leadership – Peter Obi

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has attributed the surge in killings and kidnappings across Nigeria to a failure of leadership.
Recall that President Tinubu recently paid a visit to Plateau State on April 2, 2026 where he promised grieving residents that such tragedies would not recur.
Reacting, Obi noted that subsequent events have directly contradicted those claims.
In a statement released via his official X account on Monday, Obi pointed out that a brutal attack occurred in Nyamgo Gyel, Jos South LGA, less than 24 hours after the President’s pledge.
He further highlighted a wave of violence over the past week, including the displacement of the Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities in Nasarawa State, where at least 11 people were killed and numerous homes destroyed.
Obi also cited the abduction of 150 people in Zamfara State and a terrorist raid in Chibok, Borno State, which resulted in the deaths of four officers.
He expressed deep concern over Easter Sunday massacres in Benue State and recent attacks on churches in the Ariko community of Kaduna State.
Obi argued that the primary responsibility of any government is the protection of lives and property, stressing that the current situation constitutes a national emergency that leaves Nigerians feeling increasingly helpless.
