Rainstorm destroys Abuja bus terminal, triggers gridlock

A severe rainstorm on Tuesday evening caused extensive damage to the newly constructed Kugbo Bus Terminal, leading to a massive traffic gridlock along the Nyanya–Keffi Expressway.
The heavy downpour, which swept through the Federal Capital Territory, tore off sections of the terminal’s roofing.
Debris from the structure was scattered across the highway, obstructing the flow of vehicles and leaving hundreds of commuters stranded for hours.
The most affected section of the highway is the axis housing the Abuja Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre, operated by the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (VIO).
The accumulation of debris on this critical artery which links Abuja to neighboring Nasarawa State brought vehicular movement to a near standstill.
Eyewitnesses reported that several vehicles sustained minor damage from flying debris. In an effort to restore order, local residents and stranded motorists were seen attempting to clear the wreckage from the road to create a passage for trapped cars.
As of Tuesday evening, traffic remains slow-moving and heavily congested.
Authorities have advised motorists to exercise extreme caution when approaching the Kugbo axis or to seek alternative routes where possible.
