Pres.Tinubu set for a two-day visit to Lagos

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to visit Lagos from April 8 to 9 to commission major infrastructure projects executed by the administration of Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu.

The development was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, during a media briefing on April 6 at the Press Centre in Alausa.

Omotoso said the visit reflects the commitment of both the federal and state governments to infrastructure development, economic growth, and improved living standards. He listed the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge among the projects to be inaugurated, noting that the 5.04-kilometre infrastructure is designed to ease traffic congestion across Ojota, Maryland, Mende, Opebi, and Allen in the Ikeja axis.

He explained that the project, originally conceived over 20 years ago, was revived in January 2022 by the Sanwo-Olu administration and is expected to enhance connectivity and reduce travel time within the metropolis.

The President is also scheduled to commission the Alausa Multi-Agency Office Complex, designed to improve coordination among government agencies and enhance service delivery. According to Omotoso, the facility sits on 2.01 hectares of land and consists of four blocks, a penthouse for meetings, and parking space for about 300 vehicles.

infrastructural development

In the education sector, Tinubu is expected to inaugurate the redeveloped Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area. He said the complex comprises 36 public schools serving about 20,000 pupils and has been upgraded with new classroom blocks, sports facilities, an ICT hub, a central laboratory, and inclusive infrastructure for persons living with disabilities.

Omotoso added that the structures were built on a 25-metre pile foundation to ensure stability, given the soil conditions in the area, with the aim of improving access to quality education and providing a conducive learning environment.

Other projects to be commissioned include the Lagos State Geographic Information Service building and a mid-level agro-produce hub in Abijo along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, both designed to support a growing population, improve mobility, and stimulate economic activities.

He noted that the visit underscores the partnership between the Federal Government and Lagos State, as well as the importance of continuity in governance.

The commissioner assured residents that adequate security, logistics, and traffic management plans have been put in place to ensure a smooth visit. He urged the public to cooperate with authorities by adhering to traffic advisories and security guidelines during the period.

However, with the election season approaching, some observers have raised concerns about the timing of the project commissioning, suggesting it may carry political undertones.
