Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have rescued an abducted victim unharmed, neutralised two suspected kidnappers during a gun battle, and recovered a firearm alongside N2.2 million suspected to be proceeds of crime.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.
According to the statement, the victim was kidnapped on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Babaseyi explained that upon receiving the report, the Command immediately activated its Anti-Kidnapping Unit, deploying intelligence and tactical resources to ensure the victim’s safe return and the arrest of those responsible.
Sustained intelligence gathering, strategic surveillance, and relentless operational pressure mounted on the criminal gang eventually forced the kidnappers to release the victim unharmed on June 18, 2026.
Determined to ensure the perpetrators did not escape justice, the police intensified follow-up operations, tracking the gang to their hideout.
The Police Spokesman disclosed that the suspects opened fire on the operatives upon sighting them in a desperate bid to evade arrest, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire.
“During the operation, two members of the gang were neutralised, while other suspects escaped with varying degrees of gunshot injuries,” he stated.
A search conducted on one of the neutralised suspects led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun.
Further examination of the scene yielded an expended cartridge, a mobile phone, and N2.2 million in cash, which investigators suspect to be criminal proceeds.
Babaseyi described the operation as a major breakthrough in the Command’s ongoing fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
He noted that the successful operation is a testament to the effectiveness of the intelligence-driven, proactive crime-fighting strategies pursued by the Command under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni.
Efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing gang members, while investigations remain ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni commended the gallantry, professionalism, courage, and operational effectiveness displayed by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
He noted that the success reinforces the Command’s commitment to relentlessly pursuing criminals wherever they hide.
The Police boss reiterated that Ogun State remains hostile territory for criminal elements, assuring residents that the Command will continue deploying intelligence-led policing, robust tactical operations, and strategic community partnerships to safeguard lives and property.
