Police deploy officers to contain violence in Osun communities
The Osun State Police Command has deployed officers to prevent further unrest and bloodshed in the Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun communities within Orolu and Irepodun Local Government Areas.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Adeoye Adeola, confirmed the deployment in a statement released on Monday.
According to Adeola, the renewed hostility between Ifon and Ilobu resurfaced on Friday, spreading to Erin-Osun, resulting in fatalities, arson, and extensive destruction of property.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Abba, directed the immediate deployment of officers to restore order, safeguard lives, and prevent further escalation.
Adeola reiterated that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, would strictly enforce the 24-hour curfew declared by the state governor to curb the violence.
He further disclosed that three suspects were arrested for violating the curfew and were found in possession of a Dane gun.
“A thorough investigation will be conducted, and the suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law,” Adeola assured.
He also stated that the Command is monitoring the situation closely and will ensure that all perpetrators and their sponsors are identified and brought to justice.
