Police deny seeking court order to stop #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest

The Nigeria Police Force has debunked reports alleging that it approached a court to obtain an injunction stopping the planned #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, made the clarification on Sunday through his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, warning media organizations against circulating unsubstantiated reports capable of inciting public misunderstanding.
Hundeyin described the the reports as false, misleading, and unverified.
“At no point did the police approach any court to stop protests. Peaceful protest remains an inalienable right of Nigerians,” Hundeyin stated.
He condemned the report published by an online platform which alleged that the police had sought a court order in Abuja to halt the demonstrations. The report also claimed the matter was adjourned to Tuesday, a claim Hundeyin dismissed as “entirely false and based on one sided narration, not investigative journalism.”
The Force PRO reiterated the commitment of the Police to protect citizens’ rights while maintaining peace and public order nationwide.
According to him, professionalism and objectivity remain critical responsibilities of the media in strengthening democracy and promoting national unity.
