Police declare Adam Iskilu Akinwunmi wanted over same-sex relations

The Nigerian Police Force has issued a wanted notice for Adam Iskilu Akinwunmi, who is accused of engaging in homosexual activities, which is illegal in Nigeria and carries a penalty of up to 14 years imprisonment.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Akinwunmi was allegedly caught on May 22, 2023, engaging in homosexual acts with others in his community. However, he managed to flee the scene before he could be apprehended.

Authorities have been searching for him since May 6, 2024. Despite several attempts to arrest him, Akinwunmi remains at large. The police have confirmed that a thorough investigation into the matter has been conducted, and the allegations against him have been substantiated.

“We have carried out a thorough investigation into this criminal act and found it to be true. Unfortunately, Adam Iskilu Akinwunmi escaped during efforts to apprehend him,” the police stated.

The public is urged to report any information regarding his whereabouts to the nearest police station, as all attempts to arrest and prosecute him have thus far proven unsuccessful.
