Police commence Operation Velvet to enforce traffic laws in Kwara

The Kwara State Police Command has launched Operation VELVET, an ongoing enforcement initiative aimed at ensuring compliance with traffic laws and improving road safety across the state.
The operation, which began on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, was introduced under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
According to the Command, the exercise focuses on ensuring that motorists obey traffic regulations and that all vehicles operating on public roads carry valid registration and other legally mandated documents.
The police advised motorists to ensure their vehicles and documentation are in order before setting out, warning that violators will face appropriate sanctions in accordance with existing laws.
The Command described Operation VELVET as a continuous enforcement programme and urged motorists and other road users to cooperate fully with police personnel during the exercise.
The Commissioner of Police also called on drivers to operate responsibly and adhere strictly to traffic regulations, stressing that the Command remains committed to protecting lives and property, maintaining public order, and making roads safer across Kwara State.
