Police arrest 202 suspects in Asaba raids, impound 25 vehicles

The Delta State Police Command has arrested 202 suspects during an intelligence-led raid on criminal hideouts, brothels, and suspected illicit drug dens across the Asaba metropolis.
The operation, conducted on Saturday, was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations, alongside other officers of the command, following credible intelligence generated by the State Intelligence Department (SID).
According to the police, the raid targeted identified black spots and criminal hideouts as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime and enhance public safety across the state.
A statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that the operation resulted in the arrest of 202 suspects, comprising 102 males and 100 females.
The suspects were arrested for offences bordering on operating brothels, possession and sale of suspected illicit drugs, and other related crimes.
The command also impounded 25 vehicles including five motor vehicles, 10 tricycles, and 10 motorcycles for alleged violations of extant traffic regulations, the state government’s restriction on tricycle operations, and the ban on motorcycles in designated areas.
Commenting on the operation, the Commissioner of Police for the Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and sustained enforcement against criminal activities across the state.
He stated that the command would continue to deny criminal elements the space to operate while intensifying efforts to rid the state of crime.
The commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and support the police by providing credible and timely information that would aid crime prevention and law enforcement.
