President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that peace and security in Nigeria are not the sole responsibility of government, calling on traditional rulers to play a stronger role in promoting stability and unity across communities.

Tinubu made the remarks in Lagos at the launch of the autobiography of Samuel Oluyemisi Olu Falae.

President Tinubu who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume said, "Peace and security are not solely the responsibility of government; they are collective duties.

He further urged monarchs to take a more active role in conflict resolution and community engagement.

The President emphasized that traditional rulers must go beyond ceremonial functions and act as stabilising forces within their domains, using their influence to promote dialogue, discourage violence and strengthen social cohesion.

“Our royal fathers are the closest link between government and the grassroots. Your palaces must remain centres of peacebuilding, conflict resolution and moral guidance,” he said.

He also commended Falae for his contributions to public service, noting his roles as former finance minister and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, as well as his current position as Olu-Abo of Ilu-Abo in Ondo State.

Tinubu said Falae’s career reflects a blend of public administration and traditional leadership, adding that his contributions helped shape Nigeria’s economic policies during key periods.

He also referenced Falae’s leadership role in Afenifere, where he serves as chairman of the National Executive Committee.

The President added that his administration would continue to engage traditional institutions in efforts to improve security and promote unity, especially at the grassroots level.

He described Falae’s autobiography as a record of experience and a source of lessons for future leaders, highlighting themes of service, resilience and national development.
