PDP stakeholders in Cross River North support chairman’s reinstatement
Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River North have declared their full support for the National Working Committee’s (NWC) decision to reinstate the suspended state chairman.
Among those backing the decision are Senator Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe (representing the senatorial district), as well as lawmakers Peter Akpanke (Bekwarra/Obudu/Obanliku) and Godwin Offiono (Yala/Ogoja federal constituencies).
The stakeholders convened on Friday at Agom-Jarigbe’s residence in Ogoja, where they met with the reinstated chairman, Mr Venatius Ikem, to deliberate on the party’s future.
During the meeting, party leaders urged members to remain united and resist distractions that could weaken the PDP’s influence in the state.
Following extensive discussions, they unanimously agreed to abide by the NWC’s decision and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the party.
Offiono expressed gratitude to constituents for their steadfast support and reiterated his dedication to the PDP. He also commended Agom-Jarigbe for his leadership and contributions towards delivering democratic dividends to the senatorial district.
Similarly, Akpanke reassured party members of his unwavering commitment to the PDP, refuting claims that he was planning to defect.
“I am not leaving the PDP for the APC. This party remains my political home,” he affirmed.
Agom-Jarigbe highlighted the resilience of the PDP in Cross River, particularly in the northern senatorial district, despite recent challenges.
He accused certain individuals who had fallen out with the governor of attempting to destabilise the party under the guise of a coalition, which was originally formed to support former Governor Liyel Imoke’s re-election bid.
“The North remains the stronghold of the PDP in Cross River. With this reconciliation, our party will only grow stronger.
“Let this reconciliation come from the heart. Since we are in the season of Lent, let this be our penance,” he urged.
In his remarks, the reinstated chairman, Ikem, expressed gratitude to Agom-Jarigbe for his role in resolving the crisis and fostering party unity.
He apologised for the instability caused by the leadership dispute and pledged to provide better governance and direction for the PDP in Cross River.
Other party leaders from various local government areas also spoke at the meeting, stressing the importance of sustained unity and reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the party’s position in the state.
