PDP Chieftain goes into hiding following alleged assassination attempt

A chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Alimosho Local Government Area, Hon. Ben Davies, has reportedly gone into hiding following an alleged assassination attempt linked to rising political tensions in the area.
According to his personal assistant, Mr. Moses Imonode, Hon. Davies, who was formerly known as Hon. Ben Arulogun, narrowly escaped an attack at his residence located at No. 1, Aiyetoro Road, Ayobo, Alimosho, on January 31, 2026.
The incident occurred after unidentified individuals allegedly stormed the community late at night in search of the politician.
The Chairman of the Alimosho Local Government Area, Hon. Isiaka Shodiya, who is familiar with the development, alleged that the incident is connected to a growing political crisis within the local government area.
He stated that the crisis is being fueled by rivalries involving members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties ahead of future political contests.
Hon. Davies is widely regarded as one of the notable grassroots mobilizers for the PDP in Alimosho.
According to the council boss, Davies contested for the chairmanship position of the local government on the PDP platform during the 2021 local government elections in Lagos State but lost to the APC candidate.
Despite the electoral defeat, associates noted that he remained politically active and continued campaigning against what he described as poor governance and unfulfilled promises by the ruling party in the council area.
He had also reportedly declared his interest in contesting the Lagos State governorship position in November 2025.
Hon. Shodiya explained that political tensions escalated significantly on January 31, 2026, when suspected political thugs allegedly attacked members of opposition parties during separate meetings held across Alimosho.
He revealed that the violence began at a scheduled meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) near the Pipeline Bus Stop, opposite the Idimu Police Station.
Armed hoodlums allegedly disrupted the gathering, assaulted attendees, and destroyed properties including chairs, tables, and canopies.
The attackers then moved to another opposition gathering in Egbeda, where similar acts of violence reportedly occurred.
Hon. Shodiya further alleged that some of the suspected thugs later passed by the PDP secretariat located along Akowonjo Road, warning that opposition political activities would no longer be tolerated in the area.
Hon. Davies was reportedly at the secretariat at the time, holding a meeting with members of his political support group, where he was allegedly warned to discontinue his political mobilization against the ruling party.
The situation reportedly took a more dangerous turn later that night when suspicious individuals were spotted within Hon. Davies’ neighborhood asking residents about his whereabouts. Alerted by neighbors while attending a nearby political meeting, Davies immediately fled the area for his safety.
According to close sources, the politician has been in hiding since the incident, following repeated advice from family members and political associates to prioritize his safety.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force has yet to officially comment on the allegations, and no arrests have been made in connection with the incidents.
