The Oyo State Government has announced its plans to convert Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (lautech) to a conventional University.

The Governor of the State, Engr. SeyiMakinde disclosed this at an award ceremony held in honour of the Oyo State negotiation committee on LAUTECH.

At the award ceremony, the Governor stated that now that the problem of ownership is resolved, the State in the coming weeks would apply to the National University Commission (NUC) to convert the University of Technology to a conventional University which would offer regular courses like law.

He also disclosed that a new campus would be opened at Iseyin this year. The campus would host the College of Agriculture and Natural Science.

The Governor who appreciated the efforts of the committee also commended the Osun State Governor, Governor Oyetola for putting aside all differences to ensure the negotiation was a win-win for both States. He reiterated that all changes to be effected would not negatively affect the workers of the institution but rather bring more progress.

The Chairman of the Committee, Prof. AyodejiOmole in his speech explained that the negotiation of sole ownership of LAUTECH was tough, thorough and tension soaked and further commended the members of his team for not losing focus and their integrity.

He equally commended the Governor for his resilient approach to leadership and advised that all recommendation given should be religiously implemented.

This he said, would ensure that LAUTECH is restored to its old glory of being the University of First Choice.
