Over 540,000 candidates fail to secure University admission in NECO 2025 SSCE

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results for the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), revealing that 60.26% of candidates met the minimum university admission requirement, while a significant number did not.

According to the Registrar, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, a total of 818,492 candidates passed with at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics. This figure represents the successful candidates out of the 1,358,339 who sat for the examination.

By contrast, 540,157 candidates failed to achieve the five credits with English and Mathematics.
Additional data shows that the total number of candidates who secured five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics, was 1,144,496, or 84.26%. This indicates a higher number of passes when the two core subjects are not considered.

The Council also noted that cases of malpractice are under investigation, and further details on withheld results will be released after due process.
