As part of efforts to improve transportation and ease traffic in the state capital, the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared that his administration has embarked on mega infrastructure projects without mortgaging the future of the state.
The Governor made this known at the commissioning of the newly completed 672-meter-long Lameco flyover bridge in Osogbo.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Wednesday, Governor Adeleke stated that his administration embarked on mega infrastructure projects without mortgaging the future of the state.
He commended the engineers handling the project for delivering a high-quality job, saying, “The high quality of this flyover confirms the workability of our local content model.”
According to him, “This project is not isolated. Today marks the commencement of the unveiling for public use of several mega projects initiated by our government. This is part of our administration’s promise to rebuild Osun through infrastructure that touches everybody’s life, roads, bridges, health, education, and water.”
“We implemented this and other mega projects in accordance with due process, transparency, and without mortgaging the future of our state. The high quality of this flyover confirms the workability of our local content model. We have proven to the whole world that our local engineers can perform to world-class standards. The Lameco Flyover is proof that when resources and people are well managed, good governance is the outcome.”
“I am glad to bring to our attention that our administration has completed over 27km length of intracity roads in Osogbo. Across the state, we have executed over 300 kilometers of roads. We have over 10 mega projects completed and ready for commissioning. We positively touch all major towns under our motto of equity and fairness in infrastructure innovation.”
“Conclusively, I charge the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure and our community stakeholders to protect this asset. There should be no street trading on the bridge or underpass. There should be no vandalization of railings or lights.”
“Let us own it, keep it clean, and maintain it for the next generation. Our drivers and commuters must drive responsibly. This bridge was built to save lives, not to endanger them,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, commended the Governor for the successful construction and commissioning of the Lameco Flyover Bridge, describing the project as a landmark achievement that would transform transportation and economic activities in the ancient city.
