As part of the efforts to ensure free flow of traffic on the roads, the Osun State command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has begun operation “stop obstructing the road” in the state.

Consequently, to avert road obstruction on market days, market men and women were cautioned against displaying wares on the roads.

The Sector Commander, Paul John Okpe who stated these in a meeting organised for operation officers, said the Command is working with the state government to ensure sanity around the markets.

A statement by the spokesperson of the command, Agnes Ogungbemi, revealed the the Sector Commander specifically mentioned Owode market, Otaefun, Igbono among others where the activities of market men and women including korope drivers affect free flow of traffic.

Okpe said the interface with the state Government led to the recent removal of the mini market at Dele Yes Sir roundabout located in the state capital.

He further hinted that the inauguration of Osun State Road safety Advisory Council (SaRSAC) will lead to making the roads safer as the Council is considering issues of vegetation along highways which aid criminality and does not give clear view, potholes among others.

“Enforcement and traffic control will be intensified along with public enlightenment and advocacy through the media, motor parks, traditional leaders, Iyalojas and most importantly deployment of regular and special marshals around markets in the state.”

Maintaining that safety on the highway is a collective responsibility, Okpe tasked motorists to abide with traffic rules and regulations.
