One died as police prevents kidnapping attempt in Katsina, rescue 14

A victim of abduction for ransom died while receiving medical treatment after gunshot wounds by armed bandits in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

It was gathered that the deceased was among two rescued victims who had suffered gunshot injuries and were rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention by the police in the state.

The incident was said to have occurred on Sunday after some suspected bandits, shooting sporadically, attacked two commercial vehicles at Dan’arau village along Magama Jibia road in Jibia LGA, Katsina State, in an attempt to kidnap the occupants.

Reacting, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of the Jibia, led a team of operatives to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, in a statement on Monday, said the DPO-led team, successfully foiled the kidnapping attempt and rescued 14 victims.

He said that although efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects, the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Aliyu Musa, urged members of the public with useful information on suspected criminal activities to promptly report to the nearest police station.

He further commended the officers’ exceptional display of gallantry and dedication to duty, charging them to sustain the tempo.

“On November 24th, 2024, at about 1955 hrs, suspected armed bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically attacked two (2) commercial vehicles at Dan’arau village along Magama Jibia road in Jibia LGA, Katsina State, in an attempt to kidnap the occupants.

“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia led a team of operatives to the scene, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun duel, successfully foiled the kidnapping attempt, and rescued fourteen (14) victims.

“Two rescued victims suffered gunshot injuries and were rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention. Unfortunately, one victim succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment,” added.
