Ogun Traditional Ruler secures freedom for 10 inmates

Two nursing mothers and eight other inmates have regained their freedom from the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The released individuals—comprising three women and seven men—had been held due to their inability to meet bail conditions. They had faced various charges, including theft, conspiracy, public disturbance, and loitering.

Among those released were two nursing mothers, each carrying their babies.

The Olu of Itori, Oba Abul-Fatai Akamo, facilitated their release as part of activities marking his 21st anniversary on the throne.

Oba Akamo personally covered the fines of the freed inmates and provided them with transport funds and other essential items. He also made a donation of ¦ 2 million to the correctional centre in recognition of the dedication of the State Controller, Adesina Abioye, and his team.

Accompanied by the Olowu of Owu, Oba Saka Matemilola, the traditional ruler urged the inmates to remain hopeful and prayerful.

“Do not lose hope; the future holds promise. Always pray for Governor Dapo Abiodun, as he has a compassionate heart and will not forget you,” Oba Akamo advised.

Abioye, speaking on behalf of the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, expressed gratitude to the monarch for his generosity.

“I sincerely appreciate Kabiyesi for this act of kindness. He pledged to assist our inmates during his 21st anniversary, and today, he has fulfilled that promise. Not everyone honours their commitments. We need more philanthropists to support our facilities,” Abioye stated.

He also encouraged the released inmates to reflect on their experiences and apply the lessons learned while in custody.
