Ogun Police warn against '777' cult anniversary gatherings, vow swift crackdown

The Ogun State Police Command has issued a firm warning against any unlawful gatherings or processions associated with the alleged “777” cult anniversary, reportedly planned for 7 July.

The command has stepped up surveillance across all divisions and area commands in a bid to forestall potential cult-related violence or civil disturbance.

Police spokesperson, Mrs Omolola Odutola, revealed in a statement on Sunday that intelligence reports point to planned cult activities in several parts of the state.

She urged parents and guardians to advise their children against loitering or assembling in public places, stressing that any suspicious clusters would be promptly dispersed by security operatives.

“The Ogun State Command wishes to inform the public, particularly youths, of credible intelligence concerning intended cult-related gatherings referred to as ‘777’ in various locations across the state,” Odutola stated.

“Any attempt to stage unauthorised assemblies, marches, or anniversary events linked to cultism will attract immediate and decisive police intervention.”

The police also cautioned that individuals found in possession of firearms or dangerous weapons would be arrested and prosecuted without delay.

“Parents and guardians must take responsibility for the conduct of their wards. Young persons are urged to stay away from public spaces and activities that could raise suspicion or compromise public peace,” the statement added.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, warning that any breach would be met with the full force of the law.
