Ogun police in gun duel with armed robbers recover 2 stolen vehicles, other goods

Some daredevil armed robbers, in the early hours of Saturday were said to have engaged men of Ogun state police command in gun battle at Ipamesan area of Sango Ota, in Ado-Odo/Ota local government after which one of the robbers, Henry Obe was arrested.
This encounter, according to statement from the Spokesman of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Sunday, was said to have followed a distress call, received by the DPO Sango Ota divisional headquarters of the Nigeria Police, that robbers were operating at Ipamesan area, and that they had already burgled a warehouse in the area.
The statement reads that “upon the distress call, the DPO, CSP Godwin Idehai, quickly mobilized his patrol team, and moved to the scene.
“On sighting the policemen, the robbers who had snatched two vehicles from different locations took to flight, but were hotly chased by the policemen.
“On getting to Joju area and realising the determination of the patrol team to subdue them, they decided to engage the policemen in gun battle.
But due to the superior firepower of the policemen, they abandoned the two vehicles, a Lexus RS 330 with registration number FKJ 691 FW snatched from one Dosumu Kazeem, and a Toyota Matrix with registration number MUS 835 FW snatched from one Ibrahim Lateef, and took to their heels.
“The team pursued them and one of the robbers, later identified as Henry Obe was arrested in the process.
“It was later discovered, that the hoodlums had shot a guard attached to a warehouse own by one Yinka Oduwale, before breaking into the said warehouse and looting it. The guard was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
“Items recovered from them are: one long gun, 41 laptops, 2DVD players, 2 phones, 3 tablets gadgets, one Lexus RS 330 with registration number FKJ 691 FW and Toyota Matrix with registration number MUS 835 FW.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation.
He also directed the crack detectives to go after the remaining members of the gang with a view to bring them to justice within the shortest possible period.
