Ogun commences palliative work on Sango-Ijoko-Alagbole Akute road

The Ogun State Government has begun palliative work on Sango-Ijoko-Alagbole Akute road in its quest to alleviate and relieve residents of pains being incurred daily.

The construction of the road projected to receive about N38 billion, was awarded by the past administration in the state led by Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

The road, which was designed to be a six lane project, however, took off only with the demolition of many buildings and construction of bridges in many spots.

The 37-kilometre road project was thereafter abandoned, resulting in anguish and pain as commuters and motorists navigate the road.

However, speaking with journalists in Abeokuta Thursday, the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ade Akinsanya, said that the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, had directed the commencement of palliative works on the road to alleviate the suffering of commuters.

According to him, the Abiodun administration had been able to modify the design of the road in order to minimize additional demolition of buildings in the area.

Akinsanya said: “This project has been declared a top priority by Governor Abiodun because he is deeply concerned about the plight of the people living in the areas.

“Already, we have perfected agreement with the Lagos State government with regard to the border towns.

“We urge people of the area to bear with us as the work gets underway.

“The contractors have started work in Alagbole.”
